While COVID-19 positivity levels dropped for the seventh day in a row on Long Island, there were widespread reported delays in getting results for PCR tests and the statewide daily death toll reached its highest level in nearly a year.

Arctic air will sweep into the region Friday night into Saturday, followed by a strong storm system later in the weekend that could potentially bring heavy precipitation, strong winds and coastal flooding, the National Weather Service said.

After an electric space heater malfunctioned and caused a deadly fire in the Bronx, Long Island officials say a similar tragedy could occur in any community if proper precautions are not taken.

 Two cars struck and killed a 30-year-old man standing in the middle of Brentwood Road in Bay Shore on Monday night, Suffolk police said.

A 58-year-old Bohemia man was driving westbound near Exit 51 when his vehicle veered and struck a guard rail Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
