Even though many families will travel and be with those they don't see a lot, the school winter break next week comes as cases and deaths drop and more people are protected.

A Long Island Rail Road passenger, who police identified as Yusef Staine, 20, of West Babylon, was shot dead by his traveling companion on a 1:51 a.m. Ronkonkoma train to Penn Station, Suffolk police said. The suspected shooter remained on the loose Wednesday night, according to police.

The deal calls for Huntington Town to take over certain roads and for Suffolk County to waive past maintenance and repair charges, officials said.

Developer Benchmark Senior Living said it wants to build a 90-unit facility for seniors on the site of the long-standing bowling alley on East Main Street. But residents are speaking out against the plan and have launched a petition drive against the project.
